In another blog post, I explored Quill-bot, a versatile AI writing assistant designed to help writers with paraphrasing. Wordtune is another AI writing assistant. I gave Wordtune summarizer a try, and here’s what I learned.
Wordtune is another decent AI writing tool; however, it is best suited for rephrasing original writing. Also, it has fewer additional tools than Quill-bot. Quill-bot is my choice for a paid AI writing assistant.
What Does Wordtune’s AI do with original text?
Something people often wonder is whether AI will eventually replace humans. Word tune addresses that concern in its FAQ section:

To see what Wordtune’s AI would do with its text, I copied and pasted it in the text box and clicked the rewrite button. Here are the results.
Rewrite One
Wordtune is not a replacement for humans, as humans bring the most important part of writing: the ideas. It acts as a writing companion by allowing you (the writer) to communicate your own ideas in the most effective way possible.
Verdict: It is a decent rewrite that keeps the meaning, but it wouldn’t pass a plagiarism test without additional rewordings.
Rewrite Two
It is not our intention to replace humans. Humans bring the most important part of writing: ideas. Wordtune acts as a writing companion, using AI technology to help you communicate your ideas.
Verdict: This is better than the first version. A nice feature of the Word tune app is that it gives you numerous options, and you can select the one you like the best.
Rewrite Three
Our goal is not to replace humans, our goal is to help you (the writer) communicate your own ideas in the most effective way possible. Wordtune acts as a writing companion, using AI technology to help you put your thoughts into words.
Verdict: This version leaves out the idea that humans bring the ideas.
Rewrite Four
Wordtune does not replace humans; we encourage them to do so! Humans bring the most important part of writing: the ideas. It uses AI technology to assist you (the writer) in communicating your own ideas effectively.
Verdict: The first sentence seems to encourage Word tune to encourage AI to do so. Definitely a no-go.
Rewrite Five
Using artificial intelligence technology, Wordtune enables you (the writer) to better communicate your own ideas by using AI technology to help you use the most effective ways possible to do so. Are you replacing humans? No, we love people! The most valuable part of writing is the ideas.
Verdict: The question–Are you replacing humans?—in the middle doesn’t fit. And the last sentence lacks a transition.
Rewrite Six
You’re replacing humans? We’re not replacing humans! Human ideas are the most important part of writing. Wordtune works as a personal tutor, using AI technology so that you (the writer) can effectively communicate your own thoughts.
Verdict: Another word salad.
The WordTune AI Provides Many Options
The tool gave a total of 10 choices to choose from, but these 6 should give you the idea that the tool does not excel at paraphrasing. None of the examples were as good as the original, which I assume was written by a human.
However, WordTune and the testimonials claim that the tool is best suited for helping a writer fine tune their own writing, so I decided to try the Wordtune app to see if it could improve on the previous paragraph (which I wrote quickly).
Paraphrase One
It gave me a total of 10 options to choose from, but these 6 should give you a sense of how well it does at paraphrasing. None of the examples were as good as the original, which I assume was written by a human.
Verdict: This was so-so. The first sentence omitted my conclusion, and it didn’t change my second sentence.
Paraphrase Two
The tool gave me a total of 10 choices, but these 6 examples should give you an idea that it is not very good at paraphrasing. None of the examples came close to the original, which I assume was authored by a human.
Verdict: This paraphrase is very close to the original.
Paraphrase Three
All the results were mediocre, and none were as good as the original, which is what I assume was written by a human. There were a total of 10 examples to choose from, but you should be able to tell from these 6 that the tool is not good at paraphrasing.
Verdict: I like the word mediocre, but the program made a subject/verb agreement mistake. The verb “were” should agree with “total .”There was a total.
Paraphrase Four
This tool provided a maximum of 10 options, but these 6 should give you an idea of how bad the tool is at paraphrasing. None of the examples were as good as the original, which was obviously written by a human.
Verdict: I know this is picky, but not excelling and bad are not the same.
Paraphrase Five
I chose 6 examples from the list to illustrate the fact that the tool doesn’t excel at paraphrasing. Interestingly, none of the examples was as good as the original, which I assume was written by a human.
Verdict: This is my favorite of the rewrites. If it had been the first or second, I would have chosen to replace it with mine.
Bottom Line
Although the idea is clever, I don’t believe the results are as good as those for Quill-bot, and I would not recommend spending $9.99 a month for the Wordtune summarizer. The free version offers a maximum of 20 rewrites per day. Since the free version limits a text to 280 characters, a prolific writer would be forced to pay for the program or limit its use.
